Introduction

Fish tape (also known as a draw wire or draw tape) is a tool used by electricians to route new wiring through walls and electrical conduit. Fish tape is a length of stiff wire with a hook at the end and is usually stored coiled on a plastic reel. It works because it is bendy enough to easily go around corners and curves in the pipe, but strong enough to be pushed through the pipe without folding on itself and capable of pulling other items back through the pipe without breaking.

How It Works

Fish tape is the only good way to run wire through insulation. It will help you push wire through conduits faster and easier. It's sturdy yet flexible enough to snake inside walls, and can be used to run wiring behind objects that are big, heavy and would be a pain to move. However, sometimes the bends are too sharp, or the conduit has a joint or connection where the fish tape gets stuck. If that is the case, tie the end of the cord or the fish tape to the loop formed and pull it back through the way it went in. Please note, this is usually a two-person job: One to pull the fish tape from the far end and another to help feed the wire through without kinking or tangling on the other end. It's also important to note that staggered connection points prevent bunching or hang-ups in tight bends, so be careful not to let that happen.

There will be a number of sections in the element which will create similar insulating media in quick succession and thus the arc will be extinguished in a matter of few milliseconds, say 5 to 8 milli-seconds, ie., less than 1/2 a cycle.

Most homes have at least one exhaust fan in the attic. Depending on the size and shape of the attic, the attic may have 2 or 3 fans. Since the attic is usually hot in the summer months - sometimes reaching as much as 130 degrees F - the attic fans will often have bearing failure. The bearings are usually of the sealed type and can not be lubricated. Most of the time it is cheaper to replace the fan than try to repair them. Some fans have a thermostat that can fail but you may not find the correct thermostat and it is still easier to just replace the complete fan.

The tools required to replace the exhaust fan are: flashlight, wire strippers, needle nose pliers, screw drivers and nut drivers.

To replace the attic fan, first verify that the power is turned off. You can turn the breaker off or if the breaker is not marked, using a multimeter, verify the voltage is off by shutting the breakers off one at a time and reading the voltage at the fan connections. ( They are usually connected with wire nuts that you can carefully remove to check the voltage. After the power is turned off and verified disconnect the wires from the fan. The wires may be physically attached to the exhaust fan by a clamp which can be loosened to pull the wire out of the fan. Most fan motors have 3 screws holding them to the housing. Remove the mounting screws and pull thefan out. By doing this you do not have to climb a ladder on outside to remove the exhaust fan. Then reinstall the fan with the mounting screws and reconnect the wires. Turn on voltage and verify that the exhaust fan is working and you are done.

After weeks of search, I found no information about its quality and I had even more questions! 1) Was this really in fact a Pure Sine Inverter? 2) Would it be able to run a motor or a Microwave? 3) Would it be noisy or overheat? When the power turns on, the fans come on for a couple seconds and use 1.6 or so amps/h then the fans stop and the unit uses only on stand by 1/2 an amp. When running a microwave, a motor, blender , toaster, it remains cool and quiet and the fans stay off. This was my experience for all the appliances I used.
